Boston Uncommon has returned for its second volume to continue covering Boston-based drag, queer nightlife, and LGBTQ+ current events. Featuring original writing and reporting by Emerson College student and drag artist Joni 66, Boston Uncommon engages authentically with those who work and play within the city’s queer spaces and reports on issues that directly impact local and greater New England LGBTQ+ communities.

BIG STORY: Queer Theatre Project announces 2022 production of Twelfth Night, upcoming open call
The Queer Theatre Project, a new Somerville-based theatre company created by artist, educator, and producer Matisse DuPont, recently announced its upcoming production of Twelfth Night.
Sponsored by Somerville Parks and Recreation, The Queer Theatre Project opened their first show— A Mid-Summer’s Night Dream— on Aug. 28. in Powderhouse Park. According to their Instagram, the Project hopes to bring back this production next June in time for the Summer Solstice.
In the meantime, the Project is hosting open auditions on Saturday, Dec. 11 at 11 a.m for their April production of Twelfth Night. Those interested in participating can find additional information on COVID precautions, audition requirements, and virtual audition time-slots on the Queer Theatre Project’s Instagram.
“We hope to continue producing Shakes-Queer as an imprint of this theatre company…to create a fun and casual space for queer and trans folks (and allies) to make friends and put on a killer show,” the Queer Theatre Project’s Instagram reads.

WHAT IS BOSTON DRAG?: Meet Joni 66, thoughts on Boston drag
Through my reporting on Boston queer nightlife, I have noticed a general lack of coverage on local drag scenes and the performers that define queer New England. “What is Boston Drag?” is a space for local performers and community members to explore their regional culture and local talent.

Hi everyone! My name is Joni 66 (or Sam :) and I’m a writer, journalist, and drag artist, from Los Angeles, CA. While studying writing, literature, and publishing at Emerson College, I decided to launch Boston Uncommon so I could connect to my local drag scene during a pandemic. As I’ve interviewed Boston’s drag talent, I have fallen in love with the city’s nightlife and thought it was time to share my thoughts.
