Gauntlet cast, Roadrunner job fair, a second serving, and Coleslaw
Boston Uncommon has returned for its second volume to continue covering Boston-based drag, queer nightlife, and LGBTQ+ current events. Featuring original writing and reporting by Emerson College student and drag artist Joni 66, Boston Uncommon engages authentically with those who work and play within the city’s queer spaces and reports on issues that directly impact local and greater New England LGBTQ+ communities.

STAY ON TOP OF THIS: New Allston venue Roadrunner hosts job fair
Brewery Boston’s newest Allston-Brighton venue— Roadrunner— is set to open this Spring, hosting live shows and events with artists like Olivia Rodrigo, Aurora, and Mitski.
Hiring positions throughout the venue, Roadrunner is hosting a job fair next Thursday, Dec. 20 at the Sinclair from 4-8 p.m. The fair will be an opportunity to speak with the Roadrunner team and learn about available positions ranging from box office and bar staff to production assistants and stagehands. Roadrunner is also accepting online applications.
SHOW SPOTLIGHT: The Serve Network returns to Twitch for weekly Monday stream
Since the start of the pandemic, Boston-based drag Twitch channel The Serve Network has streamed digital drag content and competitions featuring performers from across the globe. After slowing their 2021 stream schedule as venues reopened, the Serve Network returned to Twitch last Monday, Jan. 10 for their weekly stream.
According to a recent Instagram post, the Network made the choice to bring back weekly Serve Mondays due to the “overwhelmingly positive and abundant response” to their Dec. 27 holiday show. The Network is also looking for sponsors and donations to help pay the cast of over 15 artists, with more information available here.
The show streams weekly on Twitch at 8 p.m. EST. So go get your second serving!
WHAT IS BOSTON DRAG?: Coleslaw on the power of drag
Through my reporting on Boston queer nightlife, I have noticed a general lack of coverage on local drag scenes and the performers that define queer New England. “What is Boston Drag?” is a space for local performers and community members to explore their regional culture and local talent.
_____
As I’ve interviewed performers across New England for “What is Boston Drag,” I’ve always asked who they feel defines their local scenes, there is one name— side dish rather— that never fails to be mentioned. Coleslaw, one of the first entertainers interviewed for Boston Uncommon, is a DJ, drag artist, producer, and performer that the city’s scene, over the last decade, has come to know and love. Having been DJing for 10 years, performing as Coleslaw for five, the Boston-based artist has taken her art everywhere from The Boston Globe’s Hubweek to the Museum of Science to Jerry Springer’s Judge Jerry, creating and defining an inclusive and welcoming drag scene. Chasing that ‘warm and happy feeling’ she gets working her residency at Legacy’s Serve Thursdays, Coleslaw uses drag to heal both herself and her community in their darkest times.
